LASIK surgery uses laser under the corneal surface. During the procedure, a very thin superficial layer is cut and lifted off the cornea. After using the laser for the necessary corrections, the specialist will reposition the corneal flap which will remain in place by natural suction.

The healing process is very quick and pain free, while the eyesight is restored with incredible results even for severe short sight. Since no inner part of the eye is pierced, no stitches will be required in this procedure.

The LASIK Procedure:

Any potential pain during the procedure will be eliminated with the help of anaesthetic eye drops. Treatment will take about 20 minutes, so the process is quick and quite simple.

A plastic shield will be positioned over the eye afterwards, to prevent the patient from rubbing it. Clearer vision will return in the next 24 hours. You are advised to bring a pair of dark sunglasses as your eyes will be extremely sensitive to light after this procedure.

Make sure there is someone to accompany you home after the operation. You may take analgesic tablets if you experience any pain. You will receive special eye drops to apply for a few days and will not be able to drive for up to 14 days.

It is perfectly safe to have both eyes treated at the same time but many patients prefer to see the results in one eye before going on to receive treatment for the second eye. If you choose to have your second eye treated on a different day, you will not be charged additionally.

Lasik Post-Treatment

Complications are rare but in some cases patients may need further laser or surgical treatment. Mild discomfort after the operation is normal but if you feel anything more you are advised to return to the clinic or call the emergency helpline immediately. There may also be flap side effects, but they will go away little by little during the healing process.
