Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)
CK treatment is a safe procedure that can restore your healthy vision in no more than three minutes. Thanks to it you will be able to live the rest of your life without the annoying reading glasses that most of us hate so much on the end of your nose or round your neck.
How the CK treatment works
CK treats people suffering from presbyopia, a common condition among old-aged people in which the natural lens of the eye loses elasticity. It is different from long sight or hyperopia, its cause being the stiffening of the muscles inside the eye.
CK is a non-laser treatment which doesn’t involve cutting of any kind. It uses radio waves beamed around the iris, the coloured part of your eye. CK treatment induces shrinking of the tissue of the eye, which enables good near vision without affecting your overall distance vision when using both eyes. The cost of consultation is £60 while treatment costs an extra £995 per eye. Top up treatments cost £497.
Cost of CK Surgery
If you are over 45 years of age, have normal distance vision and use glasses for reading only, you are suitable for this type of treatment.
Suitability for CK Eye Surgery
The operation is safe because the radio waves are not directed towards the part of the eye that you see with. Very rarely there may be a slight distortion of vision after the operation which requires a second procedure but you will not be charged for it.
Safety with the Conductive Keratoplasty Procedure
Over 80% of patients who have undergone CK can read newspaper-size print. The procedure usually takes 3 minutes and can be given on your very first visit, about half an hour after the consultation.
It is well known that as you get older you will need stronger reading glasses, which means extra treatment needed every 3-5 years. The cost is half the standard price during this period.
Results after CK Surgery
Right after the procedure, patients may experience mild discomfort but this will not last for more than half a day. You can then return to normal activities, though there might still be fluctuations of vision and small grey dots around the eye for a few weeks. It is advisable that you should avoid rubbing your eyes and wearing make-up for two days. Staying away from the wheel is also required for the next week.
